Jokowi Has Not Decided to Take Leave or Resign

Despite the legislative election has been conducted yesterday (4/9) and some survey institutions have also conducted temporary quick count, Jakarta Governor, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who runs for presidential candidate  has not decided to take leave or resign.

I'm not a law person. I need to get an advice from the expert. The decision could not be determined in the short time

Jokowi admitted that he is still waiting for the study of constitutional law team, so he is not able to take decision on that matter. "It is still reviewing on constitutional law," said Jokowi at his official residence Jalan Taman Surapati number 7, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (4/9).

The special team that is comprised of several legal experts at several universities is still doing the study on constitutional law. For that reason, he cannot be sure until when the study done.

Jokowi: Legislative Election Today Runs Honestly

"I'm not a law person. I need to get an advice from the expert. The decision could not be determined in the short time," he added.

He argued as he did not want to imitate other presidential candidates in making decisions.

As it is known, Jokowi has declared himself as a presidential candidate from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) some time ago. Because of that reason, some people have asked Jokowi to resign from his position as Jakarta Governor.

However, based on the rules, even though he has run for presidential candidate, Jokowi is allowed not to resign from his position. The regional head who runs for presidential candidate is just need to take leave as stipulated in Law No. 42 of 2008 on the Election of the President.
